An even 100 players braved the dire prediction for 90% chance of rain at Bear Creek and were not disappointed. It did rain lightly on occasion and even one steady rain that only lasted a couple of minutes. The promise of playing at Bear River did not manifest itself, fortunately. However, the weather did provide us with some exercise. I can’t remember how many times I put on and took off the rain jacket, but it was enough to almost break a sweat.

The course was in excellent condition. These fairways have filled in beautifully and the greens, though rather swiss-cheesed with ball marks, ran fairly true. They do seem to have subtle breaks in them right around the holes as we found out on too many occasions. We didn’t have lipouts but we did have too many near misses with the ball not finishing into the holes. I’m sure the bulk of the contestants today can testify to that, with of course the exception being the teams near or at the top of the heap.

Alone in first with a -13. tying the all-time ACS low score was the Ken Klasing team of Russ Wall, Bob Pahmeier, and Dave Buesse. As we know, it all comes down to that and today the sun shone on this team (well, you know what I mean). Great shooting guys.
