We had a pretty decent day for golf at the Teamster's course with 92 of us showing up to try our wares on the tees and greens. For those of us who've not played this layout before (and I'm one of them) this was a new experience to say the least. It's a good thing there was a full charge on the cart because the distance between #'s 18 and 1 was enormous. It's a good thing our group had someone who'd played the course before to help us find the way otherwise we'd still be running around Jefferson County looking for that elusive first tee. At least I think it was #1. By the time we got there I think we were in a different time zone if not state.

The course needs some work. Especially the greens, or what used to be the greens. Since everyone had to putt on the same surface we couldn't use that as the excuse for our meager outing. In fact some of the putts we did sink were of notable length so all the blame cannot be in the direction of the green surface. But to call them greens would be far too complimentary. We saw perhaps one green that might've come up to last place against almost any of the greens we've played on so far this year. One of our foursome said he's played this course many times in the past and it used to be in pristine shape due to the efforts of the greenskeeper, or whatever you call those guys that specialize in the care of a golf course. Well, wouldn't you know it but that guy moved on and someone else took over. Obviously not the same caliber.

On the course we had two new players for the day. One is not actually new, but it's great to see him again, Karson Kosowski. He's been battling some health issues this season and emailed me earlier in the week saying that he's actually hit some balls at the range and pronounced himself fit enough to play. He qualified that though and said he'd stoop to riding in a cart because he wasn't sure he could last "walking" the course. As we all know Karson has not "walked" a course in his life, but has galloped through every 18 holes this group has ever played. Well, reports are that he didn't ride either! But he didn't run this time, he walked, finally. Congrats Karson and it's great to see you out here again. Try not to worry us again, will ya?

The other new player for the day was one Bob Coambes who retired from the map factory some time ago (he didn't tell me what year so I can't pass that on). He's residing on Stockton Lake, or Lake Stockton, just northwest of Springfield, MO. Bob called me a few nights ago saying he'd caught wind of our group and wondered if he could join us for the round today. Things worked out that he could and we paired him up with Joe Goines for the day. Now you all know how tall Mr. Goines is. Mr. Coambes probably can match Joe inch for inch in the height department so those two guys somehow settled into a golf cart and evidently had a good time. Perhaps they removed the roof on the vehicle to give themselves some breathing room.

Anyway, I guess a good time was had by all and in spite of the heat that settled in during the latter stages of the day, everyone finished in decent time.
